Carol Wahl and Brandi

Pet Partners of Central New York

Brandi is Carol’s fourth, that’s right, fourth registered Pet Partner. Carol’s other partners have been Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. While Brandi is not Carol’s first golden retriever, Brandi is her first Pet Partners golden.

In Carol’s words:

Brandi came to us as a 2.2 lb. 8-week old rescue. She was in jeopardy of being inhumanely euthanized. I persuaded the owner to let me have her after some negotiations. We were told she needed to be hand-fed and that she was deaf and they just didn’t have time to care for her. My husband Ric and I drove three hours into the boondocks and found her in a black, cold, dark shed. She was a pitiful sight.

We brought her home, fed her fresh boiled chicken, bathed her, and warmed her. Our veterinarian evaluated her the next day.  She needed vaccinations, good food, and love. Further evaluations determined she was not deaf.

We had no intention of keeping her. We already had 3 dogs. I had previously owned a golden and yellow lab but had transitioned to a smaller breed. The plan was to foster her and find her a new family. Well, we fell in love with her sweet personality and love of life! She had already found her forever home.

Brandi and I recently passed our Pet Partners evaluation and we are now a therapy team. She has been a big hit during her recent visits to Upstate Hospital and PACE (Program for All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly). She is a natural!
